Approach to the story "La careta" by Julio Ramón Ribeyro from the semiotics of Greimas and the Entrevernes Group.

Abstract

Julio Ramón Ribeyro is one of the most important authors of literature, not only Peruvian, but also
Latin American, and he is highly recognized worldwide. One of his first stories that had not been
included in the compendia until this century, is the one entitled "La careta", about which several
works have been written. Now, our essay proposal addresses it from the semiotic perspective of one
of the most outstanding discourse analysts of the 20th century, the Russian Algirdas Julien Greimas.
To approach his theory more systematically, we use the works of the Entrevernes Group, since it
adapts its methodology, organizes it and makes it more functional. The study deals with the two
levels that Greimas proposes, the Surface Level and the Deep Level, in order to try to show the
functioning of the signs in the story.
