Abstract

The short tale “El viento distante”, by the Mexican writer José Emilio Pacheco (1939-2014), reproduces a dialectical opposition that is distributed throughout this brief narration. It is possible to represent such dichotomy using the following concepts: ‘modern world’ and ‘traditional world’. The first concept contains the second, in a way that distorts and submits it to its rules. The result is a conflicting network of social relationships that tend to the dehumanization, because of the presence of the commercial factor.
