The family in Mexico, as an object of study, has been approached from multiple perspectives and various disciplines, however, these studies are relatively recent compared to other countries, such as Spain and Great Britain. In this text we propose an approach to the structure of the family in Ancient Mexico―, shortly before the arrival of the Spanish―, and until the end of the 16th century, in Mexico City, capital of New Spain and Guadalajara, capital of the kingdom of Nueva Galicia.
