Keywords:
Sweet land, Ramón López Velarde, Mexican nationalism, Nationalist spirit.Abstract
‘‘La suave patria’’ (Sweet land) by Ramón López Velarde, is one of the most representative poems during the Mexican nationalist period in the twentieth century. In this essay, there is a critical approach to different cultural aspects that reflect the spirit of the nation and how it manifests itself. It shows cultural aspects of the time in which it developed and likewise is presented La suave patria as an enigmatic poem, with love, political and social codes. These codes can be deciphered thanks to Juan José Arreola, Jorge Luis Borges and Agustín Yáñez, who were sharp readers of the poem.
