On ethics and applied ethics: ethics that leaves the classroom and takes to the streets

This manuscript argues that ethics, or moral philosophy, has an inherent practical component because the ethical problems people face every day are practical problems and arise from encounters with other human beings, with other non-human living beings, and with the environment. This is what is known as ethica utens, which precedes theoretical ethics or ethica docens. Reflection is indispensable, although it must be placed in its own specific place, which is to guide as a beacon, because the attempt to construct a moral theory that offers a fundamental justification for all our moral judgments is a much more ambitious project than the attempt to answer specific questions.
