Within the pictorial production of Emigdio Vásquez (1939-2014), the mural "the legacy of César Chávez" includes representations which transcribed into an American identity. The way in which it proceeds for study is the following: analyzes the semiotic system of the text, that is, their forms of articulation. For this purpose the particularities of the significant matters are taken into account. The image, input, raises some hierarchy of content whose primary base is due to mechanism specific codiciales. All semiotic function in a text keeps relations with knowledge of the world, so it is necessary to determine the mode in which the processes of transcribing a sociality and mediations that affect it take place. "The legacy of César Chávez" is a representation of chicano art, where the iconic signs of the Mexican and the U.S. constitute a bicultural identity.
