The Spoiler in Audiovisual Narrative: an Analysis Based on Ned Stark´s Death in Game of Thrones
Keywords:
Narration, Suspense, TV seriesAbstract
In this paper my purpose is to demonstrate that spoilers, instead of decrease satisfaction in having a narrative experience, enriches it while whatching a TV series. My basis for this analysis is fundamented on three important points in order to demonstrate such a premise, focused all of them in the analysis of a character death in Game of Thrones series, the one called Ned Stark: the first one, the knowledge of miths for tragic performance in Greek theater was public, and this constitutes the historic fundament to consider a narrative experience without conflicting the outcomes; the second one, the narrative experience, in order to become satisfactory and deepens in aspects of meaning construction, might not be focused in what, but in how a plot solves the main conflict; the third one, there is a difference between surprise and suspense and, in order to understand the dynamics of both of them, it becomes important to consider spoilers without the stigma it has in contemporary enterteinment industry.
