Abstract

This paper concerns about Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology, and decolonial thinking. Specifically, it
states questions related to eurocentrism being expressed in the French philosopher’s concepts of
culture, and alterity. This article proves how phenomenology holistically defines subjectivity, culture,
and alterity. Subjects create constitutive horizontal interdependence with their world and other
people. Therefore, Merleau-Ponty did not hold eurocentrism, since the latter is widely known for its
highly hierarchic vision, and other’s culture denial.
