The Literary Humanism and the Novels of Lee Byeong-Ju

This article analyzes the humanistic character in the novels of Lee Byeong-Ju (1921-1992). Following on from the relation between humanism and literature towards the context of the contemporary Latin American narrative, which had originated in the genre of journalism and testimony, the present study will emphasize the figure of Lee Byeong-Ju, who was the first Korean writer to combine the journalism with the literature, into his historical and testimonial narrative of the period of Japanese domination over Korea, and under the military dictatorship during the 1960s.
