Cuban-American Identity in The Marks of Birth by Pablo Medina
Keywords:
Cultural identity, Migration, Cuban-American identityAbstract
The following research delves into culture and identity individually and as a whole. These key concepts are approached as the product of human interaction in a changing social context. It further analyzes the role of migration in the construction and development of our cultural identity. All of which contributes to the objective of the research that aims to establish the theoretical basis for exploring the Cuban-American identity as a bridge between two seemingly different cultures. Particularly, attention will be focused on the novel The Marks of Birth by Cuban-American writer Pablo Medina who belongs to the generation known as Los Atrevidos, for having been the first generation of Cuban immigrants in the United States that dared to write in English. Conducting the literary analysis of this work would help us unravel the characteristics of Cuban-American people in the diaspora.
