Abstract

This article aims to identify the dominant characteristics in Paco Ignacio Taibo II's book La lejanía del tesoro (1992), that comprise what current literary theory has called ‘new historical novel’. First, an overview of the traditional historical novel is given in order to differentiate its model from that of this new genre and, thus, recognize the literary properties that determine it. Subsequently, an analysis of the novel is carried out to demonstrate its belonging to this recent type of text.
