Desire, understood as a conative mental state that longs for what is not yet possessed but nevertheless wanted, continuously animates life. It is a persistent tracker of objects that, at times, takes on its most unsettling form: that of excess. Desire emerges as a force that overflows the logics of control and ethically confronts us with the conditions of our own humanity. What is proposed here is an interdisciplinary articulation of perspectives drawn from philosophy, psychoanalysis, and political theory to examine how, in the present, desire is managed as emotional capital, while also reclaiming its overflowing character as a living form of resistance against the mechanisms that seek to govern life and its affects.
The political dimension of desire unfolds precisely in that restless pursuit of what can never be fully possessed, in that remainder which eludes all representation. From this standpoint, desire appears as a creative energy that traverses norms, fissuring established orders and opening cracks where the living, the multiple, and the unpredictable may once again emerge.
