Abstract

In this text we address two axes of discussion about the news in El Informador: the issues of women,
feminism and debates, and the notes on young people and social movements that are published in
the newspaper. The specific corpus for this work is made up of reports and opinion articles published
in the months of March and June. The starting point for the review of communications about women
in the newspaper is the supposed self-definition of objectivity in El Informador, with the
characterization of not questioning or criticizing governments or social actors. Women and their
social struggles are addressed in the newspaper with a daily frequency and in a significant number of
notes, however, the perspective is superficial and the plurality of demands and collectives are not
visible. For their part, young people are treated as criminals and made invisible as citizens, it is not a
new issue in the Guadalajara context, rather it is part of the news that newspapers direct, including
El Informador. In each of the collective actions carried out by young people, the newspaper has been
present and, in most cases, taking sides with those who represent the authority. The analytical
perspective in the study of youth is that collective actions and social movements are made invisible
and criminalized by the media.
