The Old and New Novel of the Mexican Revolution. Recreation of testimonies and historiography.
Keywords:
New and old novels of Mexican Revolution, Testimonies, Historiography, Comparative studyAbstract
One of the biggest movements in Mexican literature has been the fictionalization of the
Mexican Revolution through novels. The "Novelas de la Revolución Mexicana" were a
turning point in the stylistic narrative of writers and literature in Mexico. This literary
movement integrated for the first-time characters representing the lower layers of the
Mexican society, such as "indios" or "mestizos", becoming part of Mexican literature
permanently. The scope of this essay is to offer a comparative study of the narrative
principles of the "Novela de la Revolución Mexicana" and the "Nueva Novela de la
Revolución Mexicana" as well as the elements that differentiate them. The
conceptualisations of the "Historical Novel" and the "New Historical Novel" are used as a
basis for this analysis.
