Paradais: the space for violence
Keywords:
House, Heterotopia, Space, ViolenceAbstract
The present work is an analysis of Fernanda Melchor’s novel Paradais. The focus has been made on the spatial aspect and the objective is to classify the physical spaces shown in the book from their functionality and influence on the characters of the corpus. The concepts used to achieve this are: Mijail Bajtin’s “Chronotope”, Michel Foucault’s “Heterotopia”, and, naturally, Gaston Bachelard’s approach of the “House”. The result has been a dichotomous classification of the houses into those for personal formation and those that encourage the destruction of the other.
Key words: House, Heterotopia, Space, Violence
