Abstract

Since its inception, Carlos Fuentes was attracted to writing fantastic stories, proof of this is his book of short stories Los Días Enmascarados (2002), which appeared in 1954, the cover of which referred to one of his stories included in that volume, Chac Mool, in him, the young Fuentes introduced the pre-Hispanic character in his story in a disturbing way, in order to unsettle his reader, to bring him to a state of alertness and reflection, also, the author reflected what would be another of his future occupations, the importance of maintaining a dialogue with your reader, as well as a dialogue with history. Since then, Fuentes's narrative would be characterized as dialogical and postmodern. In this article, we will analyze the novel Vlad by Carlos Fuentes based on the hypothesis that the author not only gives life to Dracula, a frequently quoted character, and that Bram Stoker immortalized, but also engages in a dialogue with the myth of the legendary vampire, enhancing through it, the importance of the reader, evidencing it in the paratexts and intertexts.
