IMAGES OF DIVINITY IN THE VERSES OF ALFONSO JUNCO.

This article analyzes representations of the sacred and divinity in the poetry of Alfonso Junco, focusing on poems included in Poesía completa and emblematic texts such as “Porque es de noche,” “Posesión,” and “Dios está en mí.” Using a hermeneutic and literary-religious approach, the author draws on the theoretical frameworks of Mircea Eliade and María Zambrano to examine how the experience of the sacred is poetically expressed through images, symbols, and oppositions that transcend rational logic. The study argues that Junco’s poetry is rooted in a Christian mystical tradition influenced by Saint John of the Cross, in which night, darkness, and silence function as necessary conditions for encountering the divine. Particular emphasis is placed on the central role of the Eucharist as a supreme hierophany, understood as a concrete manifestation of God’s presence in the world and as the core of the poet’s spiritual experience. Through formal and thematic analysis, the article shows how Junco employs literary devices such as antithesis, monorhyme, hyperbaton, and the contrast of opposites to convey the ineffable nature of faith. The article concludes that Alfonso Junco’s religious poetry constitutes a literary testimony of profound coherence between faith, poetic language, and the experience of the sacred, positioning him as a significant figure in twentieth-century Mexican Catholic lyric poetry.Downloads
