Abstract

This article addresses the film Suspiria (2018) with the purpose of establishing the relationship of the main character, Susie Bannion, with the myth of Lilith and the notions of motherhood as the fulfillment of women. Through a semiotic analysis at the level of intentio operis (Eco, 2000), the aim is to understand the significance acquired by certain symbolic elements that appear both in the film and in the myth, using Julia Kristeva's concept of the abject (2004), as well as the conceptions of motherhood from the positions of Lou Andreas-Salomé and Simone de Beauvoir.
