The Latin American gaze

Abstract

In this paper it is tried to problematize on some aspects that take part in the constitution of a proper Latin American gaze - if there is one - from prehispanic times to the present. It seeks to mention some categories and ideas that may have been crucial to understand such a gaze that has been changing and reconfiguring and, above all, resorting to thinkers, historians, philosophers, sociologists, who pay from their different disciplines making it possible to turn this work into a proposal interdisciplinary approach. The problematization is developed from three epistemic references: 1- Mesoamerican civilization before the conquest, 2- the encounter of these two culturally opposed worlds and 3- a contemporary society established from the idea of the spectacle. These points are analyzed in order to put to discussion if there is a look of the Latin American man.
