This presentation will highlight a new political interpretation of Aristotle in the 16th century different from proposals circulated during the Middle Ages. The philosophical-naturalistic bases of the theory of just war of Juan Gines de Sepulveda, in light of the political philosophy of Aristotle (in which author Sepulveda himself was deeply inspired for the foundation of his political philosophy) are investigated. This theory is not judged in the light of the controversy of the Conquest: Sepulveda-Las Casas, but rather the cause of just war are set, and thoughtful argumentation is provided on cases where its deployment, such as the last of rational choices in defense of the common good and the natural law written on the heart of our essence itself. The reinterpretation of Aristotle falls within a long tradition of thought, but is innovated and strengthened by new approaches and formulations of his time.Downloads
