The phenomenon of the spiritual crisis of man today in the context of the “culture of death”
Keywords:
spiritual crisis, culture of death, Kierkegaard, universal values, existentialismAbstract
The article examines the contemporary human spiritual crisis within the framework of the so-called “culture of death.” Its aim is to highlight the loss of meaning, the weakening of transcendental values, and the marginalization of the existential dimension in modern culture. The author employs an interdisciplinary methodology grounded in existential philosophy (Kierkegaard, Tillich, Virilio), theology, and cultural theory, analyzing the crisis through ethical-anthropological and comparative lenses. Through a critical examination of philosophical and literary sources, the study reveals how secularization, consumerism, and excessive individualism foster anxiety, alienation, and spiritual emptiness. The scope extends beyond moral or religious discourse, interpreting the “culture of death” as a structural symptom of Western civilization. Gabašová concludes by advocating for the restoration of universal human values—love, faith, and hope—as a path toward a “culture of life,” emphasizing the need for spiritual awareness in the face of contemporary nihilism.Downloads
