Keywords:
Novel, time, phenomenology, hermeneutics, essay, new languageAbstract
In his essays, Carlos Fuentes analyzes the narrative of the 60s and the characteristics of the novels selected by him. Through this analytical process, his essays resolve not only the antinomy between the esthetic components and political circumstances of the novels but also between the “universality” and “locality” of Latin American literature. The present article analyzes the concept of time in the author’s essays by comparing it with the time of hermeneutic phenomenology in order to discuss Fuentes’ analysis of the function of time as representation of the reality of novel. The corpus of the present article includes the following essays: La nueva novela hispanoamericana (1969), Tiempo mexicano (1971), Valiente mundo nuevo. Épica, utopía y mito en la novela hispanoamericana (1990), Geografía de la novela (1993) and La gran novela latinoamericana (2011).Downloads
