Abstract

The work of Mexican artist Jorge Méndez Blake is part of a contemporary movement that relates three-dimensional media to text. Literary references are fundamental to his work, in addition to the materialization and spatialization of the text, resulting in a textual presence whose composition and effects I analyze in this article. To this end, I use intermedial methodology, which aims to establish the degrees and functions of the bonds between media. I also draw on concepts from Gumbrecht, Nancy, and Parret, such as presence and materiality, as well as categories from literary theory in order to make a comparative analysis.
