Ignacio Padilla, between the spiders of memory and oblivion.
Keywords:
Qunvar, Memory, Oblivion, Hell, RicoeurAbstract
In the Ignacio Padilla’s short-story, “Tres arañas y una cuarta improbable”, from his last published
volume while he was alive, Las fauces del abismo, gathers the tradition of that insect associated with
horror. From Paul Ricoeur’s theory on the types of memory developed in Memory, History, Oblivion,
we will review the Padilla’s tale which reconfigures the oblivion of the spiders from the micro-story “Las arañas sin memoria” by Alejandro Jodorowski, with the mixture of memories and infinite
memory. We are trying to demostrate that his discourse has as a context an amalgamation of the
ancient cultures of the East, in which the author has created a new myth that confronts man with
divinity, on the shores of hell or the abyss.
