Metaphilosophy: An Ontology and Epistemology of Philosophy?

Is a critical review of the identity, essence, and work of philosophy necessary? Just as it has examined other disciplines, philosophy could undertake a systematic reflection on itself, considering its strengths and weaknesses throughout its history. This exercise would not only allow for an ontological and epistemological evaluation of its practice, but would also open up the possibility of new ethical—and even aesthetic—perspectives, speaking of philosophical work as an art based on how some philosophers have defined it, derived from such a metaphilosophical analysis.
