Conditions for a new Argentina foundational fiction, in "Artificial Respiration"
Keywords:
Piglia, Borges, Arlt, Walsh, Facundo, Dirty WarAbstract
This paper analyzes the foundational features of Respiración artificial (1980) by Ricardo Piglia, in dialogue with an analysis of Rita de Grandis, whose argument is based on the concept of "foundational fiction" from Doris Sommer. This study aims at deepening the argument of Rita de Grandis in order to reach a conclusion that through its narrative strategies this novel tries to function as a twentieth century version of Facundo, from which new discourses can be created in the literary and political area of Argentina. To achieve this goal, an analysis is conducted on the literary map of Argentina in the novel, which is designed by Emilio Renzi and represented by great authors such as Sarmiento, Borges and Arlt. On reviewing a scene from the second part of the novel, it comes clear that another Argentine writer, Rodolfo Walsh, has influenced on the narrative of the novel, which indicates Piglia’s ethical involvement in his times as an argentine writer.Downloads
