In the 19th century, the past was sought for elements that would help define the new nation, as in the work Netzula (1837), which offers insight into the concerns of an author who contributed to the construction of Mexican literature. The text presents a vision of indigenous culture, as well as the patriotic values that its author sought to instill in readers. The objective is to analyze both the preceding historical and literary context, as well as the work itself, to reflect on its literary content and its place within an identity construct that reclaimed indigenous elements to consolidate the nation culturally and politically. The methodology consists of three sections that discuss the role of literature in the identity process during key periods such as the colonial era and the 19th century, as well as the analysis of the work, which is characterized by its treatment of a theme centered on the days leading up to the fall of Tenochtitlan and the heroism of the Aztecs in defending it from the Spanish threat, all within the framework of Romanticism. Furthermore... The relationship between the concepts of identity and literature is discussed.
