Resumen

The article presents a theological–philosophical reflection on religious freedom as an essential component of human dignity and a basic condition for the search for truth. Drawing on key Catholic documents—Dignitatis humanae, Fides et ratio, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Evangelii gaudium—the author argues that religious freedom is an integral part of human liberty, allowing individuals to form their conscience, choose their religious belonging and practice their faith both privately and publicly. Methodologically, the text distinguishes between objective and subjective factors that influence the fundamental living of religious freedom. Objective factors include the family, the state and the Church, which can support conscience formation, provide legal protection for religious practice and promote interreligious dialogue. Subjective factors include insufficient personal formation, spiritual negligence, lack of commitment to the search for truth and the influence of personal sin, all of which hinder the authentic exercise of religious freedom. The main objective is to demonstrate that religious freedom is not merely a civil right but a dimension that shapes personal development, moral responsibility and communal coexistence. The article concludes that living religious freedom requires the cultivation of conscience, openness to truth and the ability to form ethical relationships grounded in justice and the common good.
