Abstract

The representation of male homosexuality in Mexican literature has boomed in recent years. The presence of homosexual characters who break the stereotype of the effeminate is a constant that proposes a different look at the should-be and duty-do of said characters. However, in texts such as The Invincible Armada, certain features are attributed to them that convey a traditional vision of this figure and that, furthermore, are fundamentally rejected in certain places considered highly masculinist. In this work, veiled discrimination is analyzed in the midst of a supposedly inclusive scenario, such as the world of heavy metal. To do this, the concept of hegemonic masculinity and hypermasculinity is used to establish that in the world of heavy metal, homosexual men continue to be excluded for not conforming to gender norms.
